Turn Your Bedroom into A Boudoir Over the Weekend

This is a friendly little disclaimer... I cannot help you to physically bring romance into your bedroom.
But I can help you spice up your bedroom's look so that you can try to do that.

If your bedroom is lacking, well, bedroom appeal, we're here to fix that. With these few simple changes you can make this weekend, you'll be referring to your bedroom as a 'boudoir' in a french accent in no time!

You bedroom is your sacred space, a place of solace within your home and it should look and feel as such. We go here to sleep, to read, to unwind, to (hey, this is a PG page people), and we want the mood to be set for such times.
A big factor in mood setting is lighting, lighting can entirely make or break an atmosphere and in the bedroom we want me make sure we get it just right. Do you have fluorescent bulbs hiding under your lampshades? Wrong lighting. Think about the cringing feeling you get when you have to turn those on first thing in the morning; think about the harsh light it casts while you're trying to read right before bed, in the bedroom you want to be able to adjust your lighting according to the time of day and the things that you will be doing. Switching over to a dimming switch, or a light with dimming capabilities will enhance your options in creating your own lighting style and setting different moods. Bedside sconces are also not only a beautiful decor piece but exude great nighttime lighting.

Curtains also effect the lighting in your room, a great choice that I like to follow through with in bedrooms are going with two layers of curtains. In layering curtains, you are able to both add to the decorative and functional sides of your space - lay a sheer, linen-like curtain overtop and a heavier darker material underneath (even blackout curtains if you'd like). By doing this you are giving yourself even more lighting options. Tie back the darker curtains during the day and allow the beautiful natural light to shine through, then when its time for bed, pull them back out and experience a soft darkness perfect for sleeping.

If you're anything like me you probably don't switch out your comforter set too often, but look, if you're still hanging onto your 16 year old self's bright pink polka dotted bed spread til its very last thread (literally) I ask you to let it go. As an adult trying to create a warm and comforting space you're going to want to have your main feature in the bedroom be decorated in a luxurious way. Whether you decide to go with a hotel style all-white duvet or opt for silky black sheets and a goose down comforter, it will not only change your comfort level while you sleep, but it is appealing and sexy. Texture plays an important role so don't be afraid of mixing soft faux fur pillows with silk sheets and a velvet chair. It can all work together.

Simplify. Simplify. Simplify.
Keep your decor simple, elegant, and attractive. Maybe your bedroom isn't the place for 35 photos of your dog, or maybe it isn't quite the best spot for your action figure collection. Hide the laundry basket and store the video games and make room for plants, books, and candles. Plants improve your air quality, bring pops of color into the room and depending on the plant, can be very soothing and give off calming scents. Books are perfect for unwinding at night, and what is better than reading a book by candlelight? Nada. Candlelight gives off an amazing ambiance that is both great in aiding sleep and happens to be quite the aphrodisiac *wink wink*.

Try out these simple steps over the weekend and see what a transformation they can make,
welcome to your new boudoir.

*I cannot be held responsible for your husband making fun of your sad excuse for a french accent*.
