FAQ

What is the difference between an interior designer and a design consultant/interior decorator?

You may have heard of both an interior designer and an interior decorator or design consultant, the difference between the titles is the knowledge and ability to work with the architectural aspects of the home - space planning and functionality. An interior designer is legally able to work with or through contractors to redesign the bones of your home, whereas an interior decorator or design consultant is focused on the aesthetics of the materialistic aspects within your home.

How do I know if I need a design consultant?

If you have ever gotten the feeling that your entire home, or just a single space within your home, does not have the appeal you wish it to, does not coordinate with the rest of your home, or just needs a little sprucing up, you may consider hiring a design consultant to assist you in creating a space that you can truly  love.

How long does the process take?

Depending on the intricacy of the project, the size of the space and your availability to work with your designer, time frames may vary. For example, if you decide to go with doing Design in a Day your space will be revamped entirely in less than 24 hours - however, if we are working together on redesigning a few different rooms in your home, it could range from a few days to stretching over the course of a few weeks.

What cities do you work in?

I am currently based on Long Island in New York and this is where I do my work. I do, however, offer what I like to call Mail Order Design which is online consulting. You can read more about the services I offer to clients in other states by clicking the Services tab.

How does purchasing work when using a professional?

Depending on whether we are doing in-store shopping together or I am doing the shopping for you be it in-store or online, costs of materials, tax, shipping and fees are the sole responsibility of the client and are wrapped into the total service cost. Receipts are provided to clients for all transactions.

Can I afford to hire a design consultant?

YES! I ensure to make my services available to many different types of clients with many different types of budgets. No matter what it is you are working with, we can design a space that will work for you. Keep in mind however, when working with a tight budget it is very important to keep expectations realistic as far as materials we can use and design styles we can go for. But don't fret, I can and will make a perfect space for you!

What should I have ready for our consultation?

Upon scheduling a consultation with me please have the following items ready and available:
     - Magazine clippings/Online photos of your dream spaces
     - Dimensions of your space (*Pertains to online consults*)
     - Budget

Do we need to go through your contractor?

Because I am an interior decorator I do not work directly with contractors; if we do end up needing to use a contractor and you do not have one of your own that you are comfortable with I can provide recommendations to you.
