First and foremost I want to wish a very happy Mother's Day to all the moms out there, and to help you celebrate I wanted to write this blog post to tell you that you deserve you time and you deserve a place to enjoy it.
Your nights are long and your days are even longer, they all sort of drag together... Do you even know what day it is? While you're rushing around taking care of everyone from your kids, your pets, your man-child husband, where is the time you get for you? And even if you did have time, where could you spend it? Man cave shman cave, its time for the ultimate mother's hideaway.
If you have a spare room, empty basement, closet, doghouse, USE IT. LOVE IT. LIVE IT. You want a space where you can go to get away and enjoy yourself and your down time. Use the empty space and fill it with all the things you love (minus the husband and kids).
Now, there are a few things that the Ultimate Mother's Hideaway needs, those things are: books, a craft station, a lovely place to lounge, and storage for all your hard liquor... Wine, I meant wine.
Start off with choosing a paint color for your space, something happy, something relaxing. Muted colors are great because they're soft and soothing: soft greens, blues, even pinks if you're a pink person, would brighten up the space and bring life into it without being overwhelming. A great feature for a room like this would be an accent wall. Now, don't knock wallpaper until you try it. Farrow & Ball has a gorgeous selection of modern and stylish styles, this one is my favorite.
After you have picked your paint color, the next step is to bring in your furniture. Let me just tell you one thing, you need a chaise lounge. Why? First off, they have such beautiful styles of them, they're feminine, they're comfortable, and they will make you look like a queen laying there. With your wine. Here are three examples in different colors are price ranges: One Two Three
If you opt, instead, for a standard couch, allow yourself a decorative chair to match; hello, this is your space, make it beautiful! Also, with furniture, give yourself a bookshelf and fill it with novels previously loved, and novels you'd love to get lost in; get a craft desk and fill your room with all your lovely little projects, or use it as a work desk and make this your own special office.
If you're going for a fancier look and are going to spend your time in here pretending you are in fact a queen, can you read my mind? Chandelier. It doesn't have to be overly gaudy, but a stunning light fixture in here will make all the difference, it will be the focal point of the room and will be what essentially sets the mood. Wayfair has a great selection of chandeliers at a relatively cheap price. Buuut if chandeliers arent quite your style, go for a nice floor lamp that will give you great reading light, natural lighting bulbs are always best in my opinion
Whatever you decide on, make this space a priority, make it yours and make it beautiful, oh, and keep everyone else out.
