Ditch the Laundromat & Make Your Dream Laundry Room (Yes There is Such a Thing)

Ironing Service, Iron, Budget, House Work, Laundry

If you're like, well, everyone else in America, you hate doing laundry. There is just no way around it. There is nothing appealing about washing someone else's dirty socks and used underwear, even your own, can't they come up with something to do and fold laundry for you?? While unfortunately I am not technologically advanced enough to do that, what I can help with is helping you to pretend you like doing laundry. And what I mean by that is creating a space that you enjoy that just happens to be the same place you have to do something you do not enjoy.

Right now I can almost bet your laundry room looks something like this: white walls, white appliances, one hideous florescent ceiling light possibly filled with flies, oh yes and lets not forget that enormous pile of laundry you've been putting off for a week (or.. month, but who is counting?) something out of a horror movie sound about right? Maybe some of you have the updated or stackable washer and dryer, awesome. Now, how can we make this an appealing room?

First off, get some freaking paint on those walls for god's sake, and don't you dare paint it brown. Paint it a color that reminds you of the way your dryer sheets smell, because that may be the only appealing thing about doing laundry. Are your sheets lavender scented? Lavender. How about "Blue Sparkle", whatever that means? Light, soft blue. "Island Fresh"? A lovely light olive green. Each of these colors are uplifting, inviting and airy.

Next thing you're going to want to do is add some storage space, shelves are a great and simple option especially if you're limited on square footage. Stick with white shelves and place them strategically around the room, these are going to be for your laundry necessities, your dryer sheets, your detergent, fabric softener, jar of clothing pins, aaaaaand a plant. Of course.

Speaking of clothing pins, a cute little project for your laundry room would be to take some clothing pins, a line of rope and some photos of your family and hang them above the washer and dryer. Voila. Crafty and cute.

If you have plastic baskets or hampers, stick with those and line them up against the wall. If you are on the market for a lovely new basket, opt for white wicker, why? Well, because they're pretty.

Opting for visually pleasing things in a room that is considered anything but, will lighten up the space and could trick your mind into a more positive attitude. Maybe? Possibly? Give it a try.
